Bennco Engineering was selected through public tender process to serve as the Marine Advisor for the Government of Montserrat under a long-term contract. Bennco Engineering is presently advising in the design and development of the new capital’s port and waterfront facilities. The port and waterfront will include berthing for cruise and cargo ships along with a marina and beaches. A public design charette was recently conducted and preliminary master plans prepared.

One of the first accomplishments for Bennco Engineering in close collaboration with the project master planner was to convince the Government to move the port to the south part of the bay instead of the north side, which had previously been selected. Using the already industrial south part of the bay made prime real estate available to the north, which will ultimately assist in financing the port.

Concurrently with the port, a new capital is in the planning process as well. The port will change the dynamics of the coastal processes within the bay, thus, in order to avoid unintended impacts, a holistic approach to the engineering planning is necessary. This includes viewing the port as an integrated part of the new capital rather than a separate isolated component.
